- Founder & Head Saddle Seat Instructor -
Developing riders and leaders through thoughtful instruction
Kellie Wendling founded Select Show Horses with a simple but powerful belief: great horsemanship builds great people. A third-generation horsewoman, Kellie began showing Arabian horses at age five and grew up immersed in the values of discipline, preparation, and respect that define the sport.
After a successful junior exhibitor career, Kellie transitioned into coaching while in college; quickly realizing her passion lay in developing riders, not just horses. She built Select Show Horses to offer intentional, high-caliber saddle seat instruction for riders, grounded in safety, skill progression, and personal growth.
Under Kellie’s leadership, Select has become a nationally respected program, producing accomplished riders and fostering a supportive, multi-generational barn culture. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes confidence, accountability, and resilience qualities that serve riders well in the show ring and in life.

- Senior Academy Instructor & Program Lead -
Day-to-Day leadership, national-level experience, and mentorship
Cheryl Wendling has been part of the Select Riding Academy story from the very beginning. A lifelong equestrian who started riding at age three, Cheryl’s earliest memories and deepest values were shaped in the barn.
Today, Cheryl is the Senior Academy Instructor and Program Lead, playing a key role in both teaching riders and guiding the overall Riding Academy experience. She continues to ride and compete at the national level, inspired by the challenge of growth and the joy of sharing that journey with students and families.
Cheryl is often the first point of contact for Academy families, helping riders find the right pace, set meaningful goals, and build a strong foundation rooted in fundamentals and horsemanship. Her teaching style emphasizes preparation, responsibility, and respect for the horse, for the sport, and for one another.
For Cheryl, success isn’t measured only by progress in the saddle. “This is a sport that develops character,” she believes — and nothing brings her more pride than seeing riders grow into confident, respectful individuals who support their peers and carry those lessons into life beyond the barn.

- Saddle Seat Instructor -
World Champion experience with a passion for teaching.
Sarah Barclay brings a rare blend of championship-level experience and thoughtful instruction to Select Show Horses. She began riding at age nine through 4-H, where determination and discipline shaped her early years in the saddle. That commitment carried her to the highest levels of the sport, earning her the title of 2009 World’s Champion Saddle Seat Equitation Rider.
In 2012, Sarah joined Delovely Farms, one of the most respected programs in the industry, where she spent six years under the mentorship of Lillian Shively. It was there that Sarah discovered her passion for teaching - learning how to develop riders with intention, clarity, and confidence.
Since joining Select Show Horses in 2018, Sarah has become a trusted coach and mentor to riders of all ages. Her instruction emphasizes strong fundamentals, horsemanship, and pride in preparation, helping students not only succeed in the show ring but also grow as confident, capable individuals.

- Academy Instructor & Elite Rider -
From Academy Rider to World Cup competitor - inspiring the next generation.
Marley Elbert began riding at Select Riding Academy at age 10, first discovering the sport through a summer camp with a close friend. What started as a fun introduction quickly became a meaningful journey rooted in connection — to horses, to the barn and to the people who supported her along the way.
Having progressed from the Riding Academy to the Class A show ring with Select Show Horses, Marley brings both experience and empathy to her role as a Senior Academy Instructor. She is known for her exceptional equitation skills, calm presence and ability to connect with riders by drawing on her own experiences — including working through mental challenges and learning how to persevere with confidence.
Marley takes particular pride in developing young horses and riders, emphasizing patience, clear communication and belief in the process. Her success as a competitor, including selection to the 2026 United States Saddle Seat Association World Cup Team and representing the U.S. internationally in South Africa, adds depth and credibility to her coaching.
At the heart of Marley’s approach is encouragement. She helps riders build confidence, empathy and trust — reminding them that every ride offers a lesson and every step forward matters.
Growing as a competitor and coaching with confidence
Morgan Grubbs was introduced to Select Riding Academy at just six years old, inspired by a cousin who couldn’t stop talking about her summer camp experience. By seven, Morgan was taking lessons herself and instantly fell in love with the sport, the animals and the sense of belonging she found at the barn.
As her riding developed, Morgan began volunteering, spending five years helping at summer camps and walking beginner riders through their first lessons. It was during this time that she realized riding was more than a hobby – it was her passion and she stepped into leadership roles including Senior Lesson Assistant, Volunteer Coordinator and Riding Instructor.
Morgan takes pride in her steady growth at home and her success in the show ring. In 2025, she placed top three at the Monarch National Series Championship, won five of six classes at the National Academy Championship Horse Show and was named Unanimous National Champion in both Equitation and Horsemanship in the 14-17 year old Walk Trot division. This year, she’s advancing into the Class A division with Select Show Horses.
As an Assistant Academy Instructor, Morgan is especially passionate about helping riders at the start of their journey. She loves finding what “clicks” for each rider – adapting her teaching style so students feel confident, capable and inspired to keep progressing.
For Morgan, riding has shaped who she is; teaching determination, patience and the importance of supporting others. Qualities she brings into every lesson and every ride.
