Every rider’s journey begins with a first step - a first ride, a new challenge or the simple desire to belong.
At Select Riding Academy, we believe riding is about far more than progress in the saddle. It’s about building confidence through preparation, forming meaningful connections and discovering what’s possible when riders are supported, encouraged and believed in.
In this space, we share stories from riders and families who are living The Select Journey in different ways. Some journeys lead from the first lesson or summer camp to the Select Riding Academy to the Class A show ring. Others lead to confidence in school, leadership beyond the barn or a lifelong love of horses.
Each story reflects the values at the heart of Select Riding Academy:
These stories aren’t just about achievements, they’re about perseverance, friendships, mentorship and the moments that matter along the way.
Whether your rider is just beginning or already dreaming big, there’s a place for them here.
Welcome to The Select Journey - where every rider’s path is valued and every step forward is worth celebrating.
When Marley Elbert first swung a leg over a horse at Select Riding Academy, she never imagined the path it would set her on. What began as weekly lessons has grown into a journey that has taken her to the top of the saddle seat world – and is preparing her for a future as both a professional coach and aspiring veterinarian.
“I started out just wanting to ride for fun,” Marley recalls. “But the more I learned, the more I realized I wanted to see how far I could go.”
That determination carried her from Academy classes to the national stage, where she earned the title of U.S. Arabian Youth National Champion. Marley’s hard work and talent earned her a coveted spot on the 2026 U.S. World Cup Saddle Seat Team and she brought home the gold medal from South Africa with the USA 3-Gaited team in December 2025.
For Marley, the impact of riding goes far beyond ribbons. “Riding taught me discipline, focus, and confidence. Those are skills I carry into school every day, and they’re the same ones that will help me in college.”
Marley now gives back to the next generation as an instructor for the Select Riding Academy, guiding younger riders who are just starting the journey she once began. “It’s amazing to watch kids gain the same confidence and joy I did. I love being part of their growth.”
With graduation from Westfield High School on the horizon, Marley is already looking ahead. Her dream: to combine her passion for horses with her studies in equine veterinary science at Purdue University.
“This sport has shaped who I am. It’s taught me how to work hard, lead with confidence, and believe in myself. I’m excited to take that into my future – in the show ring, in the classroom and one day as an equine vet.”
Marley’s story is proof of what’s possible when passion meets perseverance. From the Academy ring to the World Cup stage, she’s an example of how far a love for horses can take you.
