For many riders across Westfield, Carmel, Noblesville, Fishers, Zionsville and the greater Indianapolis area, the Select Riding Academy is where curiosity turns into confidence and where learning to ride becomes learning how to grow.
When a rider is ready to explore competition or take their skills to the next level, our Academy program offers a supportive, approachable introduction to showing. Academy competition is designed to expose riders to the joy of the show ring in a way that is encouraging, affordable and development-focused.
Riders compete on Select lesson horses, so owning a horse is not required. Classes are judged on the rider’s ability to communicate with and control their horse to the best of their ability, reinforcing strong fundamentals, horsemanship and preparation. The focus is always on progress, not perfection.
The Academy show season runs from March through November, with most competitions held in Indiana and surrounding states. Riders from Westfield, Carmel, Fishers, Indianapolis, and neighboring communities participate at a pace that feels right for their family - there is no minimum number of shows required.
Each rider typically competes in two to three classes per show, thoughtfully selected by their instructor based on readiness and goals. This allows riders to build confidence, gain experience and fine-tune their skills with each new outing, supported every step of the way.
Academy shows are also a meaningful community experience. Families and teammates cheer one another on, celebrate progress and learn together - reinforcing the camaraderie and sportsmanship at the heart of The Select Journey.
Academy riders typically participate in twice-weekly lessons at our Sheridan-area facility, allowing for more consistent practice, stronger skill development and accelerated progress compared to once-a-week instruction. This structure helps riders build confidence, muscle memory and readiness both in lessons and in the ring.
Some riders choose to remain in the Academy, enjoying competition as part of their journey. Others may eventually explore additional opportunities, including Class A competition. Both paths are respected and supported within our broader equestrian community serving families throughout central Indiana.
